More Champagne!

Literally and in celebration of our namesake netball team.

After 4 seasons and 2 grand final losses our "just for fun" team finally won a grand final!

Not quite right feeling #1 - not having our 2 most passionate and committed players present (we won't mention that one of them is our esteemed captain!) but then again they did decide to go on holiday to a place much nicer than Melbourne at the moment.

Not quite right feeling #2 - one of our players going down with less than a minute to play and not being able to get up again and then the siren blows - bit of a lack lustre end to a one point win in a grand final!!

Not quite right feeling #3 - being the unco who fell over at the end of the game and couldn't play on to the end... but then again I could take credit for stalling the game so we didn't lose that one goal advantage!

We have an amazing team of mums who are 40+, mothers of lots of kids and mothers who have babies not even a year old, a great bunch of gals all round!  Our line up has changed over the four seasons and this is the first season we have all played together... and we are playing "girls" of pretty much half our age.  We have a great time every week and all should be very proud,  I know I am!

All the Small Things!

At the risk of exposing my bra size to the world I take great pleasure in posting about the christening of my new clothes line.  Not very exciting to the average man or woman about town I know, but when you have a family that do a lot of activities that all seem to generate a lot of dirty clothes and no clothes line for 6 weeks, such small things can be very exciting to your average domestic goddess!  Add to that a Melbourne day that was sunny enough to hang out the washing and I was truly in domestic bliss!

Feeding my Addiction

Not with meatballs (for those of you who skipped straight to the picture before reading the blurb you'll know what I'm talking about!), but with the furniture store that you are guaranteed to get a cheap serving of them at.  The kids had a day off school so we trekked to the other side of the state to the new Ikea store to get a much loved item that didn't make the move with us and isn't stocked in all stores any more.
At least my new "friend" status gets me a free coffee!  The girls were very well behaved too considering the long drive and the maze like trap of the Ikea layout, but then the effects of that pink cake (aptly named the "princess cake") appeared to kick in which meant it was time to leave!

Meet the newest member of our family

Her name is Carrot!  she was acquired approximately 24 hours after the demise of her predecessor following a brief period of grieving.

Honestly there was some grieving...

We were pottering around on Saturday night after the kids had gone to bed and D says "Um should Pinky be 'resting' on the bottom of the bowl?"  We decided NOT but also decided to give the kids a life lesson and let them find her the following morning - which they did!  There were real tears and after we explained the normal life expectancy of a gold fish was less than the 2 years that we had actually had her for they seemed to cheer up... until D suggested flushing her down the toilet - the rubbish bin is a much more appropriate resting place for an ex loyal family pet after all.

An afternoon visit to the pet store was scheduled and we returned home with the chosen one (and a sausage and some bits from Bunno's).

It was a cold day in Melbourne so I left the bag floating in the fish bowl for a while to let her acclimatise.  About an hour later I returned and she looked a little more subdued than the mad dashing around fish she had been for the last hour.  Perhaps I should have read the instructions on the bag that state only 5 minutes maximum is required and not the hour I had left her for.

Thinking I was about to call on the 14 day guarantee that the pet shop offer and not fessing up about the oxygen deprivation I started explaining that some fish just don't like each other and that perhaps the widower Speedy might have to remain that way for a while.

So here we are a day later and she has perked up so much that I am now confident in posting about her.

Here I go again!

I seem to have a lot to say everyday and my kids don't listen so it's time to resort to the blog and bore you all with the mundane details of our everyday life!
